Mom had her Cat Scan results yesterday. The spots on her liver are expanding but fortunately the tumor on the Pancreas is about the same. Since the spots on her liver haven’t moved until now, Dr. Zakari has decided to change up her Chemo starting now. Instead of every 2 weeks with a 48 hour pump, she will now have Chemo 3 weeks in a row with 1 week off. There will no longer be the take home pump (which she is happy about!). The Chemo is supposed to be less taxing on her body so we hope when she is on the treatment she will not feel as sick or exhausted.

So this week she is off recovering. Next week begins the new treatment and plan. We are not sure how long she will be on this regime but we know she is incredibly strong and a fighter! xo

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year at my Mom’s house. Mom had Chemo the day before and we were worried that she wouldn’t feel up to celebrating. It was amazing to see how much energy she had. In typical Mom fashion she was all over the kitchen making sure my Dad and I were cooking, cutting and setting things out correctly. I think Dad and I told her to sit down 15 times ;).

We had a great evening spending time with the people who mean the most to us. We truly are thankful for her being here and having this time together.

Mom had her last Cat Scan on October 5th. Dad, Mom and I met with Dr. Zakari on the 9th and learned the results show ‘stable’. This means the tumor in the Pancreas has not grown or shrunk at that time. The same results came in for the tumors on the liver.

Dr. Zakari sounded optimistic and suggested that Mom start that week with reduced Chemo. Essentially that means removing 1 of the drugs called Oxaliplatin. This drug had some of the worst side effects for Mom. In addition, other drugs such as ‘5 FU’ were going to be reduced starting this week.

This next round will be 6 treatments instead of 12. The idea is to apply a strong dosage of Chemotherapy without completely draining her and giving her an opportunity to get out a bit and not just deal with treatment.

As much as we wanted to hear the tumors have shrunk further, we are all remaining positive that Mom will continue to fight this disease.

Yesterday Mom, Dad and I met with Dr. Zakari to go over the official results of the Cat Scan and determine the next course of treatment.

We already knew the mass shrunk in half based on the phone call his nurse had with mom a few weeks ago but hearing what he had to say in his own words is what we had been waiting for.

The one word we heard over and over was ‘Excellent’.. this is ‘Excellent’. Mom has endured 8 rounds of Chemo in 5 months. We cannot even begin to imagine what she is going through physically and mentally but she is fighting this horrible disease like a champ.  It was absolutely amazing to see her first Cat Scan in March compared to now. She is above average in how well these tumors have responded to treatment.

Dr. Zakari wants her to finish 4 more rounds of Chemo which will put her into October. Once that’s completed, another Cat Scan will be done to determine if the treatments can be reduced.

It’s times like this that give you hope and encouragement. xo

Again so sorry for not updating here! I sent so many text messages after we received the call on the CAT Scan update!

Mom received a phone call 2 weeks ago after her CAT Scan update. It was brief and nothing really detailed until she meets with Dr. Zakari her Oncologist on Monday, July 31st but the news was encouraging.

The mass in her Pancreas has shrunk in 1/2 since her diagnosis in March which is fantastic news. The horrible Chemo she’s enduring is indeed working. The spots on her Liver however have remained unchanged. That does not mean it’s good or bad it just means it’s there. Until she meets with the Dr. we don’t know much more then that.

They did explain that moving forward her next rounds of Chemo are going to be reduced by 15% so that is again a positive direction. The more we hear in the next week we will update here (and much faster 🙂 )

Sorry for the delay in updating this website! I’ve had so many people contact me through Facebook, Twitter and texting that I’m forgetting where and who I’m updating sometimes!

Mom was supposed to have round 7 on July 12th but ended up having to skip that day due to low Potassium levels, as well as low white blood cell count. It’s unbelievable what this horrible stuff can do to the healthy parts of your body.  The good part about skipping the week was that she felt well enough to celebrate her granddaughter’s 21st birthday that weekend at Disney! That meant a lot not only to Madison but all of us!

Her Chemo has now changed to Mondays instead of Wednesdays. In addition she is getting her nutrition on Fridays (instead of Mondays) weekly.

Celebrating Madison’s 21st Birthday

Last Sunday our family had the opportunity to spend the afternoon together at my Aunt Linda’s house in Port St. Lucie. It was great to spend the day enjoying good company and of course great food ;). Mom was feeling her best and we all had a sense of ‘normal’. Something we cherish now.

I recently created a team for the 2017 Purple Stride of Central Florida 5k being held November 11 at Lake Baldwin in Orlando.

Mother’s day was low key this year with Mom finishing up the week with her 3rd round of chemo. Eddie and I were finally over our colds and it was safe enough for us to visit. I brought over lunch and spent a few hours just relaxing and being thankful that we could celebrate this day together. xo

Last Sunday Mom felt well enough to cook (for about 30 people of course). My cousin Matthew happened to be in town and was able to come over and visit before heading home. Unfortunately both Eddie and I have been sick and couldn’t enjoy time with everyone.  Even the littlest cold can effect her. Here’s a great picture of Mom, Dad and Matthew. Hopefully we will be well enough to enjoy some time this Mother’s Day xo
